Do you remember playing that game as a child? One day last week I spent the entire day de-boning the plaid shirts I told about in a previous post. Boy, did I get a lot of buttons! Some of the shirts even had two or three extra buttons sewn inside them.
When I got done with the shirts I had quite a collection of buttons. Amazingly, no shirt was missing a button.
I also learned a few things about using shirts for fabric stash. First, unless you want to have to pick out darts, stick with men's shirts. I only had to pick out darts on 2 shirts, but the plaid design and colors were worth it. Plus, women's shirts are smaller, so less fabric to claim.
Also, a man's xxl or xxxl will give you lots of fabric. One shirt I had was a xxxl size from Jos. A. Banks. It was a gray with white windowpane stripes. That fabric is beautiful. I may use it for something besides a quilt or maybe the main focus of a quilt. Loads of nice fabric for pennies.
