Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful mothers out there. Thought I'd share a photo of me and my mother, circa 1945. I was the first born. My parents had 3 more daughters later.
I got my love of sewing and doing creative things from my mother. She began to teach me to sew when she got her first electric sewing machine when I was about 8 or 9 years old. My most treasured quilt is this one that my mother embroidered and I hand quilted.

I am continuing to hand quilt my applique wall hanging. I began a new hand piecing project this past week. I am leading a group of quilters in a Sampler Bee. Our guild bees (sewing groups) are held after our guild meeting each month. I am beginning to hand piece The Farmer's Wife Sampler blocks. These will be 6" finished. Doesn't take long to hand piece a block. Here are the first two.

I think this is a dying art since I hardly ever hear of people hand piecing anymore. So glad you are continuing this tradition! What a beautiful photo of you and your Mom!
I love the quilt you made together too!
Enjoy your slow stitching today!

I hear of hand piecing a lot... but I love doing it to! lol I just wanted to say what a beautiful pic of you and your mom and an equally stunning quilt that you two made together... how special to have that forever... and it still looks like new! Excellent work :) I am glad you are hand piecing your farmer's wife blocks... someone I know is doing that quilt by machine and that just doesn't seem right! Thanks for sharing your beautiful work! Your blocks are wonderfu! Something I have always wanted to do, maybe someday. I wish I had a mother to teach me to quilt. I started way too late in life to make all the quilts I want to make.

Happy Mothers Day to you! The only hand piecing I've done is EPP my hexies. I'd like to hand piece (the "old fashioned way") a quilt some day, but there are just so many quilts and so little time.

Hand piecing is so relaxing.... and portable. Your blocks look wonderful. Love the pick of you and your Mom and your wonderful quilt.

I understand why you treasure this quilt so much. All that beautiful work, embroidery made by your Mother; so special and gorgeous. Love it. Thanks for sharing a picture. Your FWQ blocks are lovely too. If I had the time, I would follow you along cause I would really like to make a FWQ. Oh well... someday!

What a beautiful picture of you and your Mom!!! I love the old-time photos when people used to take their time to make them just right :) I can certainly understand why you treasure your mom's quilt - lots of hours of love in there by both of you. So glad you started the Samplers Bee - I can't wait to see it take off!!!
