No "real" Pets on Quilts

I've noticed the Pets On Quilts blog hop is under way. I love quilts and I love (some) pets and kids. But, I just can not imagine allowing them on my quilts. Don't all you pet-lovers get upset with me. Once I give away a quilt, I really don't care. I give quilts for people to enjoy. I make baby quilts that will probably get drug around. Or, could end up with who knows what on it.
This is my granddaughter #2. She is 19 years old and in college now. This is probably one of my first completed quilts. The reason she is looking "sheepish" is she is sitting on a rather large magic marker stain (her handiwork). But, she still has this quilt and still loves it.
Today I will be stitching down the binding on the quilt Sharon and I made for our friend Cheryl. We decided on a black binding. The batik backing is blue with some purple, pink, and turquoise.
Not only did we applique cats on this quilt, but Cheryl owns 2 black cats. When it's Cheryl's quilt, I'm sure Peanut and Pepper will be spending a lot of time on it.

I don't have a problem at all with my dog on my quilts. He is a schnauzer who baths regularly and he has a coat that doesn't shed.. He has his very own quilt that he usually uses but he does get under a quilt with me and my husband too. The black appliqued cats are a nice add to the quilt. I am sure it will make it extra special for your friend.

No comment as I have no pets. Got enough teenagers and all their friends to keep me busy. But I'm curious, who did the magic marker stain? Was it she?

What a fun post! I agree that quilts are made to be used and loved. Teenagers are way harder on quilts than pets... in my house anyway!!

It depends on the quilt for me. I currently don't have any pets and would probably keep them off most of my quilts, but the ones that sit on the couch for cuddling on cold nights would certainly be available for pets and children. I remember crocheting a small afghan for my mini poodle when I was a teen. I think my mom still has it. I love the quilt with the black cats. Such a great silhouette.

I don't mind if my pups are on any of my quilts as long as they don't have wet feet. I have a white toy poodle and mini schnauzer. Neither of them shed and they are bathed often - whether they like it or not!! I tend to feel that any of the quilts I make are to be used and hopefully loved as well.

Our cats are everywhere...and I have older quilts all over for them to enjoy. I have a quilt on our bed that was purchased, so definitely mass produced...and they are certainly tearing that one up...they've just hit the one year old mark, Now...the Grandmother's Flower Garden I'm piecing by hand will probably be another story...although I do want to use it & by the time I get it quilted they'll be a couple years older...so maybe they'll settle down by then.
I love you quilt for your friend...especially the cat appliqued on all those bright colors!

My cats and kids love my quilts - I figure I make them to be used and loved so I am ok with it. Love the appliqué cats on the quilts. Very cute.

Your granddaughter was sure a cutie! I made a Sunflower Sue quilt for one of granddaughters, she is 16 now. Pets on quilts? We try to keep our dogs off the bed, but sometimes they sneak up there!

What a great memory! Magic markers aka naughty markers, have a way of getting most small ones in trouble a time or two. Her quilt is fabulous and so special since she still has it. Your friend is lucky to receive such a special gift. Pets on quilts.....guilty!
