When the Cold Wind Blows

For months now I have been enthralled with a quilt I first saw on the Quilty Folk blog. Ever see a quilt that you just cannot forget about? That's how I feel about the "Trick or Treat" quilt in the Blackbird Designs book "When the Cold Wind Blows." I would consider buying the book, but it was a little pricey and I'd back out. I thought I could draw out my own. But, it's their design and that didn't feel right. I finally ordered the book and it arrived Friday. Has beautiful, easy applique patterns in it.
As you can see from the photo below, this is going to be one of those forever quilts some bloggers talk about. I have always wanted to make a basket quilt!
It will be a great take-along project, too. I have already started prepping some of the baskets for stitching. I am starting the needleturn applique this afternoon. I am linking to Kathy's Slow Sunday Stitching today. Just prepping a few at a time. There are 291 basket blocks. Whew!
In my last post I showed the Mary Engelbreit quilt. My friend calls it my "yellow quilt". When my   B-I-L asked if I had used all the fabric I still had some more to show. I made my sisiter a small lap quilt with the left-overs. She likes to have something over her legs when traveling. This is the perfect size. Plus, it was her birthday. I also had a Mary Engelbreit pillow panel in my stash. I made Karen a pillow that says "The Queen of Everything" on the front and "It's good to be Queen" on the back. For her little granddaughter I made a pillow that says "Princess of Quite-A-Lot."  I had saved a "scotty dog" fat quarter to back hers. A few scraps are left, but I'm pretty much done with those!  Two baby quilts, a full sized bed quilt, a small lap quilt, and 2 pillow backs...not bad for fabrics bought at a yard sale for $8 total. The photo below is a little fuzzy, but it will have to do

Happy stitching!

A "forever quilt"? Does this mean it will take forever, or you'll keep it forever?! Maybe both! However long it takes it will be worth every minute, it's absolutely beautiful and what a great start you've made :) Happy Easter!

I fell in love with these baskets too! These will be a "forever" project for me too. I have nine baskets completed and a good size stack of ones prepped. Enjoy! Love the pillows and your quilt!

I love baskets, and those are simply adorable. I enjoyed watching Audrey make hers, and I can't wait to follow along as you make yours. If you need 291 baskets, they must be small - how large are they?

Are you making it scrappy?
