Forever Projects

Today Kathy of Kathy's Quilts blog asked how we felt about long term projects. I had to laugh. Sometimes most of my quilts feel like long term projects. How about you? And, what is a long term project? I assume it is one that you work on with some regularity as opposed to a UFO. A UFO  (to me) is a project that has been put aside for a long period of time. So, I guess I have more UFO's than long term projects.

I deliberately began a long term project a few months ago. I had been admiring the Treat or Treat Baskets quilts and I was really blown away by Audrey's basket quilt that she called Worry Baskets. See her gorgeous quilt hereSo, I ordered the book "When the Cold Wind Blows: Quilts and Projects Keep You Warm."

I expect this quilt to take me several years to finish.
Here are a few of the baskets I have started.

So, yes, Kathy. I do like to have at least one long term quilt in the works. Check to see what others are slow stitching today here

some of my long term projects last several years before the top is completely pieced. My longest projects were two Dear Jane quilts I made - both took close to 4 years to complete from start to last stitches on the binding.

Most of my quilts feel like UFOs, also:) But I do enjoy having at least one "long term" project that I'm actually working on regularly. Your baskets look lovely.

All of my projects end up being long term! I have made two quilts in a month's time for gifts but all the others are forever projects. I love those little baskets they are worth the wait!

It is nice to have long term projects as well as a few quick and easy ones. I will enjoy watching this grow.

Hi Donna--I have that book too; and like Audrey's version-- those little baskets will be one of my long term babies, also--how do you handle that little cut our diamond?? I find things like that difficult...
yours look so cute!! Hugs, Julierose

My immediate thought was that because I hand quilt, all of my projects are long-term projects. But if we're talking years instead of months, I do have a couple of really long-term projects. One is the Kiss quilt that I'm hand quilting now ... I started it early April 2014. And the other is my Martha Washington's Flower Garden which I started early September, 2013. At least the Kiss will be finished before the end of the year ... the MWFG probably not. ;-)
