Got a Fan or Two

On the 3rd Thursday of each month my guild has a Sit and Stitch day. They usually have a project that you can do or just sit and stitch. Last Thursday the project was an English paper-pieced fan. They are so cute and fun to make. I made the one in Fall colors during our SAS. The instructor let us use her sewing machine to actually stitch through the (tongue-depressor) handle. Isn't it cute?
Yesterday I helped my guild to man the quilting table at the Music and Molasses Festival here in Nashville. I had carried a bag of scraps and my kit for the second fan. I made the blue front of this fan while there. I started on the fan back, but ran out of the fabrics I had chosen. But, we quilters have a long history of knowing how to "make-do". I'm sure I can find something to fit with these fabrics.

The lady who came to teach us how to make the fans showed us some paper-pieced quilts she had made. They were all beautiful, but the one that caught my eye was appliqued with rings of pentagons like the blue one above. Gorgeous!

I will spend some time sewing with my friend Sharon this afternoon and then finish up my fan tonight. Check out what others are slow-stitching today here.

May all your ups and downs today be with needle and thread.

The Prodigal Blogger

Oh, my! Guess I have been gone for quite a while. I was very busy and also having some fun. One of the fun things I did was go the Chattanooga AQS show last month. I traveled by bus with 46 other guild members and quilters. Always some amazing quilts at these shows. Sharon had never been to an AQS show and she enjoyed all the vendors there. But, there were probably only about a third as many vendors as are at the Paducah show.

Sharon and I had been working on another bargello together...queen-sized quilts this time. I had told her that I could not get the strips put together correctly alone. But, she got way ahead of me on hers. Isn't hers gorgeous?
That big white spot is just where the sun is shining on it. I used the same colorway, but different fabrics. Sharon is free motion quilting hers now. I got my strips so screwed up that I finally just put it away. Maybe I'll bring it back out in 2016. I have plenty other projects to work on.

As if I didn't already have enough to do, I decided to take classes in Spanish. I studied French in high school and college. I can barely speak French. However, there is lots more opportunity to speak to native Spanish speakers. I am enjoying this class.

Yesterday I spent hours cutting triangles for another quilt. Took a long time, even with my Accuquilt GO. Remember the wall hanging I made for my son? I love this quilt. It started out as a full sized quilt, but DS wanted it to hang on his living room wall.
I have threatened to steal it back many times. I am using a slightly bigger triangle than this one, but basically the same colors. It will be a bed quilt. I plan to hand-piece and big stitch quilt it like the other one.

Lots more going on. I'll try not to stay away so long next time.

May all your ups and downs today be with needle and thread.
