Button Tree Lane

After my post on Sunday I had several people who asked about the origin of the backing fabric I was using on the Spools quilts. I managed to find my left-over fabric and it still had the selvage. I often cut the selvage in a long strip with about a 1/2" of the fabric print. I usually give them to one of my guild members who does awesome things with them.
The quilt pattern is called Spools by Camille Roskelley. You can buy the pdf pattern at her online store called Thimble Blossoms here. She has lots of great patterns.

Nearing the Finish Line

On Saturday, August 13th, all the guilds in the Tennessee Quilter's Association met for the annual Assembly Day. This is always a fun day and I really enjoy it. It is a lot of work for the hosting guild and usually takes 2 years to prepare. The Courthouse Quilter's of White Bluff, TN only had 5 months to put this Assembly Day together. They did an outstanding job. The main speaker was the amazing Kaye England. She is just a hoot and kept us laughing. She showed some of her many quilts from the Voices of the Past series along with some antique quilts.

In the afternoon, blogger and quilt designer Kelly Young showed her modern quilt designs and explained elements of a modern quilt. It was so fun to meet a fellow blogger. She blogs at My Quilt Infatuation.

Today I am working on the binding of a Spool quilt. I made all the blocks when I was at my guild's spring retreat. This is a throw-sized quilt.
I took this photo inside because for 2 days our weather has been gloom, then rain, then sunshine, and repeat. Looks like today will be no different.

I did most of the quilting with a variegated thread in colors of red, green, blue, and yellow. I used a loopy design to look like threads unraveling from the spools. Not perfect, but good effort.
I love the backing. From a distance it looks like any other paisley. But, if you look closely, it has a sewing theme.
I am using the same fabric for the binding. Today I will continue to slow stitch this binding. Why don't you take some time out to slow down and do a little slow stitching, too?
