Splendid Sampler Quilt Along

Have you seen the Splendid Sampler quilt along by Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson? They got together with more than 80 other designers to submit blocks for this QAL. There will be 2 block patterns per week for 50 weeks. (Click on the Splendid Sampler button on my right sidebar for more info.)

The first block came out on this past Sunday. I got the block made this afternoon. Here is my block designed by Pat Sloan.

One reason I wanted to do this QAL is because there will be so many different techniques used. On this first block I hand blanket-stitched the fused heart. I had never done that before. I used red perle cotton but, it is difficult to see in this photo.

Special note:
Thank you to all those who send me words of comfort regarding my step-daughter. Sadly, she passed away last Wednesday afternoon. The out-pouring of love was unbelievable. She had so many visitors at the hospice that someone asked if she was famous. She had touched so many lives. We miss her and her smile.

May all your ups and downs in life be with needle and thread.

Sad Times

Just a short post. My 59 year old step-daughter is in hospice care. It has been a difficult week for my family. She has battled cancer for many years. She continued to travel extensively every chance she got. She is an amazing woman.
I have been stitching my appliqued baskets at the hospice residence and at home. I may have to call them worry baskets like Audrey at Quilty Folks blog.

Please keep my family in your thoughts. I will return when I can.

May all your ups and downs in life be with needle and thread.
